A number of state legislatures and organizations put barriers between women and abortion care by directly interfering with a woman's medical care. Parental Involvement laws interfere in young women’s access to abortion care by requiring them to notify their parent or obtain parental consent prior to obtaining an abortion or other necessary health service. Young women who cannot involve their parents in their abortion decision are required to go through a humiliating, complicated, and time consuming process that involves getting permission from a judge.
